Ethereum Merge Is Now Live On The Georli Although There Are Issues Which Are Being Troubleshot To Get Their Root

The long-awaited Ethereum merge has now lived on the final public testnet. It is good to know that Ethereum is planning to transit from the PoW to PoS due to the amount of energy consumed by the current proof-of-work.

The merge has been the earnest hope of almost all members of the Ethereum community although, there are die-hard PoW that have the plan to abolish the EIP-1559 after the merge.

It is good to know that for the merge to finally go live on the mainnet, it needs to go through three different public testnets of which it has gone through two out of three.

After a series of the devnets, shadow forking and merges on the deprecated testnets. As reported by the Cryptolifedigital, a few weeks ago, the sepolia was transitioned to PoS this was after the merge has been run through the Ropsten testnet. Earlier on July 28th, the tenth shadow fork was successful even earlier than its timing.

As stated on the official blog: ”the Bellatrix upgrade is slated to occur on August 4th, 2022 at exactly 12:24 pm UTC on reaching the epoch 112260 while Paris, the execution layer’s portion of the transition will be triggered on reaching the TTD of 10790000 on Georli between August 6th – August 12th, 2022.

Tim Beiko, the core Ethereum developer, once released a breakdown of the event in the previous post filed by Cryptolifedigital.

Merge Now Live On The Georli

As said earlier, the merge has finally run successfully on the last public testnet. The update was shared on a Twitter handle of the developer working on Go Ethereum, Marius VanDerWijden. The Merge on the last public testnet, Georli was somehow delayed initially owing to some issues that occurred on the network.

Issues Being Troubleshoot

He stated that the developers are troubleshooting to get the root of the issue while he said that the testnet is functioning perfectly at the moment.

“And we finalized on goerli. There was some confusion on the network because of two different terminal blocks and lots of non-updated nodes, so we didn’t finalize earlier. We’re still looking into what’s happening, but so far it looks quite good.” Marius tweeted

The developer clarified while answering the audience’s question that the issue occurring is a result of the failure of people to update the correct software and not because of coding.

Another user brought an observation and stated maybe the issue was an indication that the nodes are failing to smoothly transit to the proof-of-stake mechanism, he said “No, it’s pos/beacon chain nodes not updating correctly.”

As stated in the blog post, the time for the main merge is not yet stated until the Georli/Pratar merge has no issues. If otherwise, the issue must be addressed before continuing with the deployment process, and following this the estimated date for the merge will be announced.

The Merge is expected to take place on the mainnet in September, should all go according to plan. Ethereum is currently trading at the $1,884 price point, up 12% in the last 24 hours and 13% over the previous seven days.
